Small Grants ProgrammeClick here for the SGP website in Romanian
Launched in 1992, the Small Grants Programme (SGP) of the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) is currently being offered in 122 countries, totaling more than 12,000 grants. It complements the regular and medium-sized GEF project funding. GEF SGP supports activities to secure global environmental benefits in the areas of biodiversity conservation, climate change, international waters, sustainable land management and persistent organic pollutants through community-based approaches that also generate local benefits. In Romania GEF SGP started at the end of 2004. To date GEF SGP has funded 80 projects in Romania amounting to more than USD 2.5 million. The projects funded by GEF SGP promote awareness raising activities related to global environmental issues, develop the capacities of communities and NGOs to address these issues and provide a mechanism to demonstrate and share best practices in solving the global environmental issues within community initiatives. GEF SGP generally offers to the GEF system and to the environmental and development sector a set of solutions already tested in the field that can be replicated and expanded to the benefit of the global environment. Information on GEF SGP awarded projects in Romania available here.
