UN Country Team Supports NGO Forum

The UN Country Team in Romania is proud to partner with the French Embassy for supporting an NGO Forum on 11-13th of May 2009 at the House of Parliament.
The NGO Forum will also be an opportunity to present the draft report commissioned by the UN Country Team entitled Snapshot of Romania’s Civil Society: Facing the challenge of EU integration, authored by Ms. Sandra Pralong, Adviser for UNDP and the UN Country Team.
The NGO Forum is organized by CENTRAS and FDSC, together with ANBCC, Pro-Democracy Association , Ce-Re, Pact Foundation, Opportunity Associates and Save the Danube and Delta Association. The forum reaffirms the need of NGOs to act together in order to ensure the financial sustainability of the Romanian third sector and generate relevant social and political impact. Expected participants include around a hundred representatives of civil society organizations from a wide variety of fields of activity but also representatives of local and central public authorities, donors and media. The NGO Forum is expected to result in a long term vision for the civil society development in Romania by 2029 defined in a set of priority action lines and implementation roadmap.
The draft report, presented within the forum, is supported by the UN System in Romania and managed by UNDP. The UN System in Romania is composed of 11 UN agencies working together together with national partners to reduce poverty, protect the environment, fight disease and promote human rights. UNDP is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP also serves coordination of development activities for the United Nations system as a whole. Through such coordination, UNDP seeks to ensure the most effective use of UN and international aid resources.
