Floods Relief Assistance II

Early 2006, Romania faced heavy floods in the southern and eastern region, on the counties located along the Danube river. The National Committee for Emergency Situations, headed by the Prime Minister, took the overall responsibility for coordinating the intervention and relief efforts and, based on the Committee’s analyses regarding intervention teams’ capacity of response at national level in case of floods, Romanian Government has issued and international appeal for assistance.
The current project has been formulated by UNDP upon consultations with the Romanian Ministry of Administration and Interior (MAI) - General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGES), in response to the above-mentioned appeal for assistance. In particular, the aim of the project is to support the Government’s capacity to respond to the current emergency situation through the procurement of necessary relief equipment (water pumps). Funding of US100,000 is provided by UNDP’s Bureau for Crises Prevention and Recovery.
